Industry: Education Company Url: www.MacEwan.ca The Risk Management department at MacEwan is seeking an Emergency Planning Officer. Reporting to the Director, Risk Management this position is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and assisting in the planning, organizing, control and implementation of emergency management and emergency operations for the College. Specific responsibilities include conducting research and making recommendations regarding best practices; overseeing and providing leadership in the design, coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness plans, procedures & training and planning; coordinating, overseeing and reviewing emergency exercises. Other duties include liaising with counterparts from other post secondary institutions as well as municipal, provincial & federal levels; ensuring software and communication tools are developed, rolled out, and revised; ensuring appropriate response plans exist and ensuring contingency plans are in place. This is a full time continuing position. Applicants must have a Bachelors Degree along with 3 years experience in emergency management, disaster planning or emergency preparedness. Certification through a recognized organization such as Disaster Recovery Institute is desirable. Training or experience in project management is preferred. A combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, manage multiple competing priorities and programs, manage teams, exercise good judgment, take initiative and act with diplomacy. Applicants will also need the ability to think outside the box to identify creative solutions and actions, quickly analyze, interpret and act on complex issues, quickly react calmly and promptly during an emergency or disaster, analyze and evaluate incomplete, conflicting and confusing information and prepare and make public speaking presentations. The successful candidate will be able to clearly communicate, both written and orally and possess good organizational skills and attention to detail. Applicants must be able to work overtime, overnight and on weekends during emergencies and disasters.
