Emergency Planning Coordinator - F/T Contract Opportunity
Employee Health, Success and Continuity - Markham Campus

Reporting to the Director, Employee Health, Success and Continuity, the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to support the College's Emergency Response Plan and related activities in order to ensure a safe learning/working environment and mitigate risk. This includes development and implementation of procedures such as, but not limited to lockdown, shelter-in-place, bomb threat, fire evacuation, hazardous waste spill, utility failures. The incumbent will assess the workplace to identify areas which have the potential for the occurrence of workplace violence in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. The incumbent will work closely with members of Security Services, Facilities Management and the Resolution, Equity and Diversity Centre in order to ensure college-wide policies and procedures are incorporated effectively into departmental policies and procedures. The incumbent will build and maintain collaborative relationships with members of external emergency management, such as Police, Fire and Ambulance to ensure that the necessary working relationships have been established and maintained in order to ensure a coordinated and effective response to emergency events.

Specific Accountabilities:
  • Researches, develops and implements emergency procedures on a college-wide basis, includes researching best practices at similar institutions and determining whether they would be effective at Seneca, or should be altered to ensure an effective response.
  • Develops, and implements campus-specific procedures based on the variables of the campuses, such as: offered programs, specific hazards, and distance to emergency facilities such as hospital, police station.
  • Provides expertise, support and feedback to Director, Employee Health, Success and Continuity, Security Services and Facilities Management in order to ensure that college-wide policies and procedures are developed into departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Assesses the workplace for areas which have the potential for workplace violence in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario.
  • Plans and executes table top exercises, training and real time drills for the College's Incident Command Team and Campus emergency teams.

Qualifications:
  • A relevant three-year diploma/degree in such discipline as Emergency Preparedness Management and/or related educational field is required.
  • Emergency management, emergency operations centre management, incident command certification are required.
  • Three years progressive work experience in developing emergency plans and procedures in a large organizational setting, preferably in a post-secondary education environment.
  • Solid experience writing effective emergency plans and procedures; experience planning and executing emergency drills and exercises.
  • Proficiency with computer software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required, proficiency using Visio would be an asset.
  • Experience & knowledge preparing/delivering effective presentations.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. .
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work well with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the multi-cultural/racial/able students, staff and public.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle in order to travel from campus to campus.
